Designed by renowned architect F.H. Herbert, the building is celebrated as a prime example of the late 19th century Renaissance Revival architectural style. In 1973 the Dineen Building was placed on the City of Toronto’s Inventory of Heritage Properties and was given a heritage designation in 2008. In 2012, after decades of neglect, the building underwent a complete retrofit and modernization of the exterior and interior spaces. All systems and infrastructure were removed and re-engineered with special attention given to the historical nature of the core elements exposed after decades of neglect. The result is a stunning example of 21st century design and technology fused with 19th-century character and craftsmanship.
