You’ve done your research, looked at different locations, signed a new lease!

I am sure words can’t even describe the excitement but nervousness as you prepare for the grand opening of your office. You have come so far and conquered so many steps in order to get to where you are now; it’s no wonder you are in business!

You deserve a pat on the back for following through the previous articles and learning the necessary steps in order to find office space for rent in Toronto. Fortunately many of these steps are universal so they will serve you well wherever you are in the world.

Some people get scared with all the different steps it takes to rent office space, but there is a reason some people are employees and others are employers. Some enjoy more responsibility than others and that’s perfectly ok either way!

Regardless, you should be PROUD! Hard work will pay off. Now let’s put together a checklist of what you want to achieve from this grand opening. The more you share with people about your business, the more they will think about it when there comes a need. Good advertisement is through word of mouth. A grand opening is not only for potential customers to learn and see what your business is all about, it’s also for potential business partners, investors, suppliers and people who want to network.

You don’t need to host a physical grand opening party at your office, you can make your announcement to the world online and in the media.

Your goal is to meet and interact with an assortment of people such as other business owners, investors, clients and customers who you can work with, whether this interaction is in person at a grand opening party or online doesn’t matter as much as long as you’re making new contacts, this building of new contacts is the incredible benefit to this all. Again, someone who can help you out with your business is just as important as a paying customer.

You need to set a budget for your grand opening. As excited, as you will be, unfortunately you can’t do everything. You want your marketing money to be used effectively and reach out to potential customers and people who will help you and your business out. If people hear free champagne and appetizers, they will travel for hours- especially in Toronto transit times.

The lines get impractical once a business displays the word FREE! If you can invite city officials to your grand opening, this will bring credibility to your brand and business.

Naturally a high end event for a private banking and investment firm opening a small office versus a discount insurance broker would cater to very different markets and their respective grand opening events and the marketing thereof would differ.

 

When speaking to people about your business and the grand opening, try to avoid selling them. Speak naturally and give them valuable information that they can take away or communicate both ways about. The focus here isn’t to pitch but to entertain and provide value where you can.

  • Free snacks + drinks

  • A discount or one day sale on the product or service

  • Offer something for kids to enjoy

  • Work with a charity and raise money at your grand opening

  • Let a popular radio station know about your grand opening (z103.5)

 

A final note to think about prior to the grand opening day is your expectations. All you have to do is be real, but don’t over boost your product or service too much. Every entrepreneur deems they have the best product or service on the market, but that doesn’t always guarantee success. With realistic measures, the outcome of your grand opening should be wholesome.

You will notice things that were successful and maybe things that didn’t go over quite as you had planned. Make a note of these particulars and ask for feedback from employees and customers who were at the event. This is a learning process and anything you can take from this day whether it’s positive or negative will help you with your next grand opening! As long as you have done your part to the best of your abilities and you are staying within budget, your day should turn out delightful.
